Victory Over Garuda!

Posted by Mike Blitz on March 21st, 2007

victory_knight.jpgFinally! We beat Garuda! The extra level and the extra Dragoon made all the difference. After a few rounds, Garuda fell to some mighty hits from our jumps. The fight still could have gone either way, as we had to revive three characters after lightning attacks fried them up, but in the end we did it. Finally!

In case it helps others, we went into the battle with two dragoons, a white mage, and a geomancer. All members were level 31. While the offensive power of the dragoons was a key, I’m not sure we could have made it without the white mage, as we lost three party members in the fight, and the revivals helped a ton.
I’m glad to hear that Garuda is one of the tougher Final Fantasy III bosses. This was a tough, fun fight, but I’m ready to move on!

After the fight, Prince Alus mentions that he will likely ascend to the throne to replace his dead father as king of Salonia. Tomorrow, we’ll explore the town a bit to see what’s changed.

Wow, you beat him. I’m still having trouble, as I didn’t pick up that many white magics along the way, seeing as I used a Red Mage mostly and needed more black magics. I think my characters are on level 29, so I’m going to level up to 31 and use your strategy as best I can.

I’m not sure if it’s a good strategy or not, but I’ve had a White Mage since the beginning of the game. I think she’s up to Job Level 50-something now.

In case it helps, I found that dragon tower to be an easy place to level up while in So1onia.

Good luck! Let us know how it turns out.

Where you been? You haven’t posted for a few days now.

When I went through the game and got to this point, I had 2 dragoons, 1 black mage, and 1 white mage. I’d also completed some side quests and had obtained a really nice lance.

Chocobo Knight: Whoops. I’ll make another post tonight. I reloaded Oblivion on my PC and got a bit sidetracked there for a few days. :)

Terpkristin: Yes, those side quests to get the lances for the dragoons made a huge difference in their damage output. I think I bought a lance, too, in the one weapon store that was open in the town.

Finally, a couple monthes over a year later, I reloaded my file and defeated the Garuda! I used a Geomancer, a Dragoon, a Red Mage, and a Warrior. I can finally move on with Final Fantasy III! After that, I’ll be replaying Chrono Trigger while I await Final Fantasy IV for the Nintendo DS to hit Western shores. Finally I understand how you felt when you defeated the Garuda, Mike.
