Tower of Zot: Up Up and Away
Posted by Mike Blitz on August 20th, 2007
Well, we bring the crystal back to Troia, its proper guardians. They allow us to borrow it for a bit, and we set back out to the Enterprise to trade it with Kain for Rosa.
For a second there, I was at a loss as to how exactly we would find Kain, but it was simpler than I thought. As soon as we boarded the Enterprise, Kain showed up. Of course a scumbag like Kain isn’t going to keep his word, and sure enough, he doesn’t.
The Enterprise is lifted skyward to a place called the Tower of Zot, which belongs to Golbez. There, Golbez himself challenges us to fight our way through the monsters that inhabit the tower in order to reach him and Rosa at the top. We’ve been had!
With little choice, we begin smashing our way through the confusing maze of passages that make up the tower. The early fighting is surprisingly smooth. We’re often fighting these bizarre puppets, and they fall quickly. Nevertheless, the puppets dish out some damage, and we’re chugging potions at a frantic rate.
After a bit, we find the door up to the second level and continue our ascent….

Good luck with this place, Mike! If you aren’t ready for this, it can be hard. I found that out the hard way, but after a bit of grinding I did it alright!

I don’t understand you and your potion-chugging tendencies, Mike Blitz… You do have healing magic at your disposal, and restoring HP and MP with Tents in saving circles was enough for me most of the times.
This is not FF III anymore, remember? ;P

If you use Cure to heal yourself outside of battle, use Cure1 many times, it’s less expensive than if you use the others (and this is true for every FF)

I always found using potions as being better than using MP saves that for emergencies. Also, those puppets are EXCELLENT grinding tools, since they can respawn infinitely.

Chocobo,
Thanks! The battles haven’t been too tough, but there are so many of them, and it’s confusing which way to go.
Sami,
I think on the whole I probably play it conservatively with MP vs. potions. But at this point, Tellah only has 90MP, and a major heal costs 9 MP. Even using the wimpy heals, I think I’d exhaust Tellah’s MP quickly if I used cures after battle to restore MP.
I think later it’ll get easier to use cures, and I’ve used magic a lot to do post-battle heals in the previous Final Fanasies, especially later in the game. At a certain point, it seems as if the magic casters get so many MP that they can never exhaust them.
Edjemaster,
Thanks! I was wondering which was the most efficient.
Darrien,
Yeah, I’ve picked up some levels in this place for sure! There are puppets everywhere! It’s like a Toys ‘R Us.

Tellah’s MP may not be much, but don’t forget that Cecil has some low level Cures as well.

Heh, yeah Mike, FF is very imaginative with strange monsters! The early ones especially in my opinion in FF6 there is a enemy who is a man with no clothes but underwear, called “Bday Suit” or something like that…he he…

SuperMateo,
Thanks! I’ve found Cecil’s cures handy when someone is on the verge of death, as you can double heal them (Cecil and Tellah).
Chocobo,
I like the train the best so far. Attacked by a train? Har! I’m looking forward to seeing how they handle “Bday Suit” in Japanese.
