Tower of Babel
Posted by Mike Blitz on December 31st, 2007
We wander the outlying areas of the Dwarf’s Castle for a few days and battle the various and sundry creatures that constantly harass our party. Slowly, we are getting stronger and more powerful, and the loot we take in slowly fills our money bags.
Perhaps it was the tedium, however, that led us on our next rash action. One day, while wandering to the west of the castle, we come upon a massive, ominous tower. Lightning crackles in the gloomy skies overhead. Our brave warriors can’t resist the temptation, and with little rational thought, we drive forward into the tower.
After a few short minutes inside, it’s clear that we are in Golbez’s Tower of Babel. Tentatively, we fight our way through the serpentine passages of the first floor. The battles are manageable, and our confidence rises. We rise to the second floor…

Have you noticed that Rydia is now older yet? You might have missed the Japanese, but it is stated where she was and how she has aged to become an adult in the time she was away

For the record, the first US translation of FF IV (on the SNES) actually called the tower the Tower of Bab-il! Talk about poor religion censorship or lack of knowledge!

Chocobo,
I had missed that part about Rydia aging. Good to know. Thanks!
Edjemaster,
I’d bet on a weird translation. I’ve seen some pretty sloppy stuff at times.
Chocobo,
Happy New Year to you as well!

Yeah, Rydia aged because she was in the Land of Summoned Monsters, where time moves quicker. Now she is around the age of the other party members

But she still has the mind of a child. At least, that’s my take on things.
