To Galuf’s World!

I’m embarassed to say this, but it ended up taking me about an hour altogether to find Cid and Mid. I finally found them at the very first meteor! Tricky guys. This would have been so much easier if they had just given us their cell phone numbers.
Anyway, Cid and Mid are messing around with the meteor, and after a bit of time come to the conclusion that we could get enough power to go to Galuf’s world if we put adamantite in the cores of all four meteorites. And just like that, we head off to do exactly that.
Except this is Final Fantasy, of course. You don’t just put adamantite in a meteor core. You put adamantite in a meteor core and then get wailed on by some ticked off monster.
We get attacked by a horde of bombs at the first meteor. These guys were tougher than I thought. Some of the would randomly blow up and take one of our party members with them. Then another bomb would do a vanishing death that would call be into existence a random number of bombs. Good grief, Charlie Brown! Just when I’d get the six bombs down to one or two, one would vanish and reappear as five new bombs. I was wondering if there was some sort of trick to this fight, as I had them down to one or two bombs on several occasions, only to find myself facing a full complement of bombs yet again. Finally, though, I managed to kill the last one before it could spawn any more. Yikes! I hope the other fights aren’t this hard!
The second fight was cake. A fat titan jumped us at the meteor, and we stoically put him out of existence with little fanfare on his part.
But the third meteor fight was another story. This time a huge dragon attacked us. It hit hard and fast. At this point, I still had Bartz as a relatively green samurai, and Lenna was gaining experience as a white mage. With Bartz and Lenna dishing out light damage, the brunt of damage output fell on Faris’ fair shoulders. The balance of the battle was bad from the start, and within a few rounds we are overwhelmed.
I immediately restart, switch Lenna to a monk and Bartz to a knight, and try again. This time we do more than enough damage to tip the scales in our favor. The dragon falls in a handful of rounds. Vengeance is ours!
And with that, we say our goodbyes to Cid and Mid, tap our shoes twice, and go flying off to Galuf’s World. We awake there on a small island in the middle of an unknown sea.
Status: Worlds Away!

The trick with the bombs is to defeat them all at the same time. This is but one of many boss fights in the series where a simple trick can make the fight much easier.

And now that the save-the-crystals part is over, comes one of my favourite sections of FFV. And…HIM.

I don’t think it’s called save-the-crystals part. For that to actually work, you don’t want to let Bartz and co. near any crystals, because every single time that they find a crystal, it just shatters. It just feels that your partys existence itself is a threat to the crystals. Solution: let them die in a random battle in the start of the game.

Yeah. There could be a competition between Bartz and Cecil to see who’s the greatest jinx.
And as many people know, planet threatening meteors stand suspended in time long enough as to allow several generations of birds to breed…as long as you don’t look at them (and no, Mike, that’s not a hint. At least not a *FFV* hint)

Heh heh, indeed Jaime, on the Meteors.
Yeah, a lot of FF characters seem to be jinxes…

It is pretty funny how inept the parties have been in Final Fantasy IV and V, at least in the first half of the games.
And that hint about birds and meteors went shooting right over my head.

I wouldn’t worry about it right now…it’ll be quite a bit till you need to worry about that!
Though the bird bit isn’t a spoiler, as I’m pretty sure Jaime meant by that Chocobos, and in that game you can breed them
