The Water Crystal: Part II
Posted by Mike Blitz on March 2nd, 2007
Shortly after we cleared that difficult third level, we found ourselves standing in front of the water crystal! Nice. Better yet, it was completely unguarded. Eria simply walked up to the crystal, grabbed it, and we started walking out. Cake!
Yes, it was too easy. An arrow came flying out of the darkness and went right through Eria. A devil-thingie with a scropion tail appeared immediately after that, and the expected boss fight was on.
Once again, we had managed to save our strongest spells for the boss fight, and once again they made the fight a straightforward affair. Within a few rounds, the devil was down for the count.
Speaking of down for the count, so was Eria. The arrow ended up killing her, which reminded me a lot of Final Fantasy II, where pretty much everyone who helped out our party ended up dead. The apparent lesson here is this: Don’t help heroes. You’ll end up dead and they’ll end up heroes. Better to be a hero yourself and let others die helping you.
With the water crystal in our possession, we were transported near a town we’ve never been to before. Wonders never cease! Apparently, a huge continent floated up out of the mist, and time once again started running! We did it! We’ll check out our surroundings tomorrow.

The water crystal was my least favorite part of the game(next to the final dungeon of course). It was pure evil to me since I was horrendously under leveled. Anyway, good luck finishing the game and the other oh….. ten or so in the main series.
P.S. The scorpion demon you’re talking about is actually Kraken, and octopus like monster. Unless there’s a graphical difference between the US and JPN versions.

That One Guy: I felt about right level-wise in the Water Cave, but I wandered around quite a bit in the early part of the game. I had an hour or two of extra leveling when I got confused after the Dragon Shrine.
That’s right! Kraken! Thanks! His name is identical in the Japanese version, but I couldn’t remember it when I was writing it up. And come to think of it, he did kind of look like an octopus in the game. I have become study.
Thanks for the good luck wishes. I’ll need them.
