Final Fantasy: Lost in Japanese

The Search for Shoes

shoes.jpgAfter getting transported out of the Water Cave to a spot next to an unknown town, we got our bearings and decided to check out the town. Whew! What talkers. My head is spinning! Suddenly, everyone is giving us pieces of information. The Japanese got a bit confusing, but I think I’ve pieced things together.

Basically, there is someone called Gordon. He is bad. So bad that he tied the Enterprise to a stake, which prevents us from sailing away. This, of course, means that we have to go beat Gordon up. Normally, this would be simple, but this is Final Fantasy, so we can’t just go to his house and stomp on him. The problem here is that he lives on the other side of a bottomless swamp. The only way to cross this swamp is to get some special boots. Unfortunately, these special boots are owned by someone who lives at the bottom of the town’s sewers. This of course means that we have to get in the sewers, find this person, and get the boots from them.

Before I do that, I want to read up a bit on the new jobs available to us, and perhaps make a few changes. Right now we’ve got a Knight, a White Mage, a Black Mage, and a Scholar, but things like Bard and Viking are open up to us now because we got the Water Crystal. I think we need more melee punch, so I might switch the Scholar to something else. I’m also wondering what to do with the White Mage and Black Mage. It seems there should be something better for them to switch to.

Don’t you have Magus and Devout yet? They’re basically the beefed-up versions of Black Mage and White Mage, respectively.

Humm…I’ll check to see what they are called in Japanese. I looked through the manual that lists the different types of jobs, but I didn’t notice any that looked like improved versions of white mage and black mage that were available yet. It looked like a couple were available later, though.

I’m guessing it’s a good idea that I take another look. It’s very possible that I missed something in the manual.

Thanks, by the way, for the tip!
