The Long Bridge

Posted by Mike Blitz on September 20th, 2008

long_bridge.jpgWe break out of Exdeath’s castle and fight our way to a long bridge that separates the castle from what I assume must be the mainland. To gain our freedom, we must fight our way down the length of this structure. We get right to it. The battles here are fast and furious, but we definitely have the edge. After methodically hacking our way through waves of enemies, we find ourselves standing at the far end of the bridge. Suddenly, Gilgamesh appears yet again and tries to beat us to a pulp.

This time he brings his “A” game: we are getting pounded. I’ve got all I can do to keep our party up and fighting. Our weapons don’t seem to do significant damage to Gilgamesh, and he occasionally casts spells that knock several hundred hit points off all our characters at once. Yikes. As soon as one party member falls, I revive him or her, only to see another fall in the next wave of damage. This goes on for several minutes. Slowly we find our party wearing down. It’s only a matter of time now. We’ve got two members down, and two left with only a couple of hundred hit points.

But only seconds away from death, Gilgamesh calls it a fight and vanishes! We’ve driven him away! Whew! Survival!

There is no time to rejoice, however. Exdeath blasts a blue barrier out of his castle that sweeps toward us. It hits us with tremendous force and sends us flying hundreds of miles, to a small deserted peninsula in the northern section of the continent.

These kind of action sequences, half run-half battle, usually using the same music in and out of battle, tend to be my favourite FF sequences.

  5. Chocobo Knight Says:

Yeah, they usually are pretty damn cool, and the music at this bit was awesome!
