Actually, thinking about it, it's logical: on one hand, FFIV feels longer than it really is due to the convoluted and engaging plot, and on the other, it's the first FF in  which strategy in battles really count, unless the first three ones where grinding was the way for everything. 

Besides, being able to follow the plot probably prevented you from being so much time Cluelessly Lost and Wandering in Circles than before. And the active time battle system might have something to do with is as well, as you can no longer "stop and think" in the middle of the skirmish.</description>
