In all three Final Fantasy games, money is a non-factor by the mid-game. I actually picked up a Dragon Quest game in Japanese when I was in Japan last summer. I think it was 7 or 8? It threw me off coming back from my Dragon Quest kick (if you've never played one, its an extreemely grind focused series, and you are not expected to be able to afford more than one or two new equipables per town you pass) Having so much money by the last chunk of the game that you don’t have to care anymore seems to be a theme they have going.
