New Toys from Zot

sword2.jpgAs we battle our way up the Tower of Zot, we stumble onto quite a few chests. For the first time in a while, these actually hold weapons and armor that are improvements over our existing gear. Cecil finds a new sword and shield. The sword in particular is a big upgrade. Cecil has actually been the weakest of our three melee fighters, as he was doing only about a third that of Yang and Cid. Now, with his new sword, he’s doing equal or better damage than the other two. This puts a big extra kick into our party’s power. Tellah gets a robe, and Cid finds a great new hammer.

Although we’re having a relatively easy time with the fighting, the Tower of Zot is a confusing jumble of passages and random encounters are incredibly frequent. By the time we get to Level 5, we’ve exhausted all but eight of our 99 potions, and are down to 40 of our stronger potions.

As we head up to Level 6 however, things change dramatically. Three bizarre sisters block our way, and after some perfunctory babble, they attack us. With our new weapons, the fight goes fairly well. After a dozen or so rounds, the three sisters lie dead on the floor, and the passage up to the sixth level is clear. Before we head up, we locate a side room that has a save point in it. We pitch our tents, rest up, and look forward to the next day’s fighting.

Wow! Seems that it’s true that getting lost is a great advantage in FF4. I remember the Magus Sisters being a tough battle with lots of strategy needed, and you make it sound like a piece of cake!

  2. Chocobo Knight Says:

When I first fought them, I was really nervous but I did alright, which boosted my confidence for the next boss battle…hint, hint…

Heh, sorry if thats a big spoiler

  3. Sami Says:

Just a heads up that you will encounter the Magus Sisters again much later in the series, albeit in a quite different form… ;D

  4. X-Boco Says:

    Yeah, they’re three prostitutes.

  5. random passerby Says:

Did you get sick or get pregnant or have a kid or fall in a well or loose your possesions or someting?

  6. X-Boco Says:

I bet he fell for an irresistible spoony bard. Now they’re off on some unknown moon lyricising. ~_~

  7. random passerby Says:

    Or he forgot his password.

    Jaime,
It’s been a while since I played that fight, and sorry for the slow response, but I don’t remember the fight being that tricky given my level. Usually getting lost is what helps, as you mention, but this time I think it was some old fashioned grinding in the Cave of the Dark Elf that boosted my levels enough to make this fight easier. I found that Cave really tough.

    Sami, X-Boco,
They come back, and as prostitutes? First all my party sleeps in the same bed, and now we’ve got prostitutes? Now wonder the Final Fantasy series sells so well.

    Random, X-Boco,
All’s good now! Back to the matter at hand. I should have made a post here explaining the disappearance, though. My life has a tendency to spiral out of control for a few weeks at a time, and I want to learn to at least give people a heads up when that happens.

  9. Sami Says:

Heh, they’re not coming back as prostitutes, X-Boco was just messing with you! ;P
