Mt. Ordeals, Part I
Posted by Mike Blitz on July 30th, 2007
Two rent-a-wizards, called Palom and Porom, join up with Cecil to help him on this trip to Mt. Ordeals. We head east out of Mysidia and after a bit of wandering end up at the foot of Mt. Ordeals. We start climbing.
The fighting gets hard fast. There are lots of undead, and Cecil’s sword is useless against them. The two rent-a-wizards are relative weaklings, and take a heavy beating as we climb. We barely survive one tricky fight, and I am about ready to abandon this trip when we suddenly and fortunately run into Tellah, who is up here looking for something called Meteo to help in his upcoming battle against Golbez.
He agrees to join our party, so I think we are safe with his added spell power. How wrong I was! The very next battle saw a swarm of undead hit us. They literally overpowered us, and I couldn’t seem to escape. Within a few rounds, our party was dead. Ack.

Here are a couple of tips:
Put Palom and Porom in the back row so they won’t take as much damage.
Undead monsters are weak against fire magic, cure magic, and restoritive items.
Hope this helps.

Big D: Thanks. The first battle I fought I mistakenly had them in the front. I was lucky it was a relatively quick fight.
But am I right: it looks like in this game that you have to alternate slots with front row and back row? Right now I’ve got four members in my party (Palom, Porom, Tellah, and Cecil). Ideally, I’d like only Cecil in the front row, but I can’t seem to do that.
Oh, wait. What a dummy I am. Even with alternating slots I should still be able to make this work, if I go: Back-Front-Back-Empty-Back.
Boy, with leadership like mine, it’s no wonder we’re dying on this mountain.

Lol, it takes a bit of getting used to, but you’ll get the hang of it eventually!

And if you find yourself in a back attack, which reverses the row positions, there is a command called “row” to save your characters. If you have time to use it before the enemy destroys your party, at least.

Chocobo,
Yup, we’ll get them yet.
Opale,
Thanks! I wasn’t sure how that worked yet, but figured it out after reading your comment.
