Mid & Byblos

A good night’s sleep can make all the difference. Only a couple of minutes after we resume our explorations of the Ancient Library in Final Fantasy V, we come upon a small room that holds a save point. We pop out a handy dandy tent, rest up, save our game, and continue on. Within moments we find Mid, standing at the far end of a room full of bookshelves. Before we can get to him, however, a giant furry thing by the name of Byblos jumps out of some books and decides to put an end to our lives.
We find ourselves in a tough fight. Although Byblos doesn’t hit hard, he hits often and has a tendency to cast a life-draining spell that reduces our hit points while increasing his own. Lenna casts Slow on him, which helps a lot, but even with that in effect the battle seems to be slipping away from us. Bartz and Faris’ weapons don’t do their usual powerful damage, which isn’t helping us at all. Fortunately, Galuf’s new summoning spell, Ifrit, helps turn the tide for us. It does a helpful 750 points of damage with each hit. Between Lenna mitigating the damage from Byblos’ attacks with her healing and Galuf pounding Byblos with Ifrit, we manage to hang on and finally topple the beast. Victory!
We imediately approach Mid, a studious bookworm who was totally oblivious to the battle that went on immediately behind him. He takes us through a shortcut to the library’s main entrance, where we tell him of his grandfather’s depression. Mid immediately heads out of the library without saying a word. It seems pretty obvious that Mid must be going to help his grandfather back in Karnak. We’ll follow him back there tomorrow.
