Leviathan Lunch

Posted by Mike Blitz on July 29th, 2007

leviathan2.jpgOops. I thought things were in disarray yesterday, but I was wrong. Comparatively, they were pretty good yesterday. It just goes to show that Final Fantasy is just like life: Things can always get worse, even if you think you’ve hit the bottom.

You see, we were sailing merrily towards Baron to exact our revenge upon the evil Golbez, when we noticed a small whirlpool in the water. Next thing we know, a mighty Leviathan rises out of the water and starts tearing our ship to ribbons. Yang goes flying off, as does Rydia. Cecil stays with the ship, but the ship is dragged under the ocean.

Cecil wakes up alone on an unknown shore. He has concluded that both Rydia and Yang are dead (but I bet he’s wrong!). Nearby is the village of Mysidia, which Cecil enters. Inside, he gets talking to the powers that be about his plan to get revenge on Golbez. They tell him that he’ll never be able to do it as a Dark Knight. Instead, he should become a Paladin. Cecil decides to follow this plan, which will involve traveling east, to Mt. Ordeals and doing something that I didn’t understand, but I’m sure will become clear once I get there.

We’ll set out for Mt. Ordeals tomorrow. For the Paladins!

The Leviathan is a recurring creature in the series. By now, you should remember him as the seadragon that swallowed the heroes in II(where they meet the dragoon Ricard) and as a summons in III. Now you’ve seen him for the first time in IV. Just keep an eye peeled for Leviathan in future installments.

What happened to Edward the bard?

    Drake,
The Final Fantasy Leviathan is a busy guy, eh? I remember him from Final Fantasy II, where he did pretty much the same thing he does in Final Fantasy IV. In FF2, though, he swallowed everyone. I’m wondering if there’s a trip to the belly of the beast in this game, too.

    Big D,
Har! Good question! Where the heck did I lose him?

You can’t go into Leviathan this time. As in FFIII, he is a Summon, which you can get optionally quite a bit later on in the game. Leviathan appears in most of the series, and is usually a summon, but he doesn’t appear in FFVI, FFX, and technically he doesn’t appear in FFXII, but there is an Airship called Leviathan in that one instead

    Chocobo,
    Interesting! Thanks for the info.
