If You Can’t Be Good, Be Lucky

After we got the flute, I either completely missed what I was supposed to do, or I totally forgot something. Anyway, I found myself wandering around in the Nautilus, looking for a clue as to what to do next.
By complete chance, I spotted a cave that I hadn’t remembered seeing before, and went up to take a look. After making our way inside, we quickly ran into a wizard, asleep on a dias! Aha! We immediately start playing the flute, which wakes up the guy! Turns out this is Unei, one of those three wizards. Nice! Anyway, she gives us a fang, and tells us that we now have three of the four fangs we need.
Huh? What fangs? I thought we were looking for crystals. I must have totally missed this part as well. And what do we need fangs for? At times, trying to play this game with limited Japanese is like trying to make sense of an LSD trip.
Anyway, she tells us that we’ll need to get the last fang, but in order to do that we’ll need yet another vehicle. Sheesh, I was just getting to like the Nautilus. The vehicle we’ll need is called the Invincible, and it can fly over mountains, which is where we’ll need to go to get the final fang. To get this vehicle we’ll need to go to a cave up north, and Unei wants to come with us.
Onward! For the fang! Why? Who knows!

I figured if you wandered around a bit you’d run into what you needed to do by accident. The fang thing…when you get the crystals, they call ‘em fangs for some reason in at least one place. I seem to remember them calling it a fang of water or something too. It seems that they use the term “fang” and “crystal” somewhat interchangeably.

So the fangs are the crystals? That’s strange. I’m actually relieved to hear that. I was thinking that I needed to get another fang, then do something with all the fangs, then get the last crystal, then do something with all the crystals. The game was seeming to get longer the more I played. I’m glad to hear that the crystals and the fangs are one and the same. Thanks!

Well, it’s just a detail, but the old woman (yes, she is one…) you just woke up is Unne (or Une, depending on how you want to spell it…). Also, you need these fangs to get to the next crystal…I think…it’s been a while…

Ah…you’re right about the name! I took a wrong note down from the Japanese. I’ll go back and fix it now. Thanks for pointing that out, much appreciated.
So you think the fangs and crystals are different after all? Humm. I know the two words are completely different in Japanese, so that would surely make sense. I guess I’ll find out in a little bit.

I gotta say, I’ve finished the game twice and I’m not really sure I understand the difference between fangs and crystals, if there is a difference. I suppose if they’re 2 different words, it would make sense that they’re different, but really, I never saw much difference in what they…..accomplished? Or that they went hand in hand.

Terpkristin: The thing that surprised me about the fangs is that I don’t remember hearing much, if anything, about them before Une asked me to go get the fourth one. Sure enough, when I looked, there were three fangs in my inventory.
I don’t remember getting them and don’t remember anyone speaking about them. I’m still not sure why I need to get the fourth one, either.
Much confusion.
