Horns ‘a Plenty

Posted by Mike Blitz on February 13th, 2007

horn_of_plenty.gifMore alert and determined, I decided to take one more look at the dwarf dungeon. This time, at the back end of the first floor, I found a looping passage I had simply missed the first time through. Once through, we found stairs down, and after that things went quickly. We got to the bottom, found the demon, killed him, and took the horn back. We then raced back upstairs and put the horn back in its proper place on a pedestal.

As soon as we did that, the demon reappears, takes both horns, babbles something about the fire crystal, then vanishes. D’oh! Tricky guy, he wasn’t dead after all!

The dwarves tell us he went to the cave on the north side of the island, which must be the one with the fire wall at the entrance. Given all the fire symbology, I’m guessing this will be a battle for the fire crystal!

These “plottwists” in early games are sometimes plain ridiculous. Why didn’t the demon steal *both* horns the first time he was at the statue? Why wait until a bunch of ragtag heroes come to fetch the other one and only then steal both of them? And why am I even trying to rationalize a videogame? XP

You make a great point. I was wondering what was going on with that, but I figured I just missed something in the Japanese explanation. I thought he said something about needing someone to take one horn in order for him to take another one, but I have no clue why this would be so. It is pretty silly when you think about it.
