Goblin Update!

A few readers have posted that this may be an impossible task to complete accurately, but we were able continue our quest of keeping track of the total number of goblins killed in our Final Fantasy adventure. This was an easy task to do in Final Fantasy IV, as we have an easily accessible bestiary that records all our kills. Unfortunately, Final Fantasy IV had a rather tame sampling of goblins, and comes no where close to the impressive totals of the first two games.
Still, we picked up over 200 kills of goblin-like creatures, giving us a grand total that is closing in on 2,000.

Mike, I need your help on something. I remember you saying in a post quite a while back that you found a bestiary in Final Fantasy III somewhere. Do you happen to remember where it is?

It’s in the town of Gysahl. There’s an old man in a room in the inn who will tell you your stats, and show you the bestiary.

Actually, the Demo Boy should be Domovoi, a type of Russian house spirit. Not really dangerous though… Also, you didn’t count any Redcap killings in FFIII. Did you see any? I know it’s possible to skip them over entirely.

Har! I was wondering what the heck those Demo boy things were. They use the same sprite base as the goblins, though. Are they a type of goblin? In other words, do you think they should count?
And thanks for the Redcap tip in Final Fantasy III. I’ll go back and check that one.

The Red Cap and Knocker enemies are easy to miss, especially the Red Cap, because they appear on the outer rim of the Floating Continent, at a time when you have already the ship (and later the airship), so practically the only way to find them is to purposely go walking through a part of the land where you don’t really have to walk. In other ways: for the most part only grinders and bestiary completists will ever find them.

I found them, but I’m neither a grinder but bestiary completist. I just came across them by mistake…heh…

Well, a domovois really isn’t goblin-like in its original form, but I don’t see why they shouldn’t count here. Oh, and I completely forgot about the Knocker in FF3, so thanks to Jaime. I also don’t remember where it is, but it’s a little goblin/leprechaun type guy that knocks on walls in Welsh mines to signal to miners where they can dig up minerals. I don’t know if you really want to count either of those as goblins, but I think the redcap should count because they are horrible, evil things that kill people and dip their caps in the blood.

I think all the things like Red Caps, Knockers, Demovois (have I spelt that right?) should count because they are Goblin types really because they’re more or less pallette swaps I think

I agree with Chocobo Knight, any palette swaps should count, any any thing that has GOBLIN in their name should count. I know Final Fantasy IV has quite a few palette swaps for goblins.
