Final Fantasy Retrospective

Posted by Mike Blitz on August 16th, 2007

Thanks to regular poster Edjemaster for this information about Gametrailers.com’s excellent 13-part Final Fantasy Retrospective series. This video series takes a look back in time and follows the Final Fantasy series through its origins and history. Currently, the first five parts have been released, and new segments are added weekly.

I watched the first two parts this morning. Each video segment is about 10 minutes long. The content and production quality are top-notch. If you’re a fan of Final Fantasy, these are not to be missed.

EDIT: I should also mention that spoilers abound in the videos, so if you haven’t played a particular Final Fantasy game yet, you may want to hold off on watching that particular element.

Enjoy!

Let’s not forget that they ruin pretty much evry spoilers in each game too, just be aware of that! Don’t watch it too much if you didn’t play the whole series!

If the FF5 part, they even hint at what happens to “that flower girl” from FF7…

(let’s try to not ruin that eternally memorable part to Mike, guys! ;P)

I’ve watched the first two now. There were fun for a number of reasons. They do a great job putting the games in historical framework and comparing them to other similar games at the time. Really interesting stuff. I also liked them because they flesh out the story. There were parts of the story that I missed because of the Japanese. And I like how they talk about the evolution of the series as well.
