Exdeath’s Dungeons

Posted by Mike Blitz on September 19th, 2008

dungeon.jpgOur party wakes up on Galuf’s World. We appear to be completely stranded on a tiny island in the middle of some ocean. Lost? Stranded? Game over? We don’t have long to wait for the answer. As night falls we set up camp. During the night we are swept away by flying monsters that look like the flying monkeys out of the Wizard of Oz.

Apparently these beasts are minions of Exdeath, and before long we find ourselves prisoners in a dungeon inside his castle. Exdeath himself appears in front of us just as Galuf’s forces launch an attack on the castle. Exdeath sets up a reflecting beam that shoots our images into the sky, and then he warns Galuf that we will all be killed if Galuf continues his attack. Galuf pulls his forces back from the attack, but then mounts a dragon and flies to the castle himself to try and rescue us.

The game gives us control over his solitary character, and we fight our way rather easily to the dungeon where Bartz, Lenna, and Faris are imprisoned. It only takes a few minutes before Galuf makes it to the dungeon. One of Exdeath’s minor bosses, Gilgamesh, tries to stop him, but Galuf drives him away. Galuf then releases the rest of the party, and once again we have a full complement of four fighters!

Time to fight our way out!

  1. Big D Says:

Gilgamesh is one of the most popular characters in the Final Fantasy series. Keep an eye out for him in future titles. *Hope that didn’t spoil anything*

  2. Sami Says:

Eh, I wouldn’t go as far as calling Gilgamesh “one of the most popular characters” (I bet most of the younger Final Fantasy fans don’t really know who exactly he is), but he sure has quite a lot of fame among the hardcore fans, I give him that.

It’s just that from my experience, hardcore fans usually fawn more over these obscure, quirky secondary characters than the really popular series idols such as Sephiroth. As soon as something becomes too popular or widely known, the hardcore fanbase loses interest in it. ;P

But yes, Gilgamesh is one of the few true crossover characters the game series has (Cid doesn’t count, since he’s a different character in every game).

  3. Windark Says:

By the way, did that Gilgamesh fight have the normal boss music, or the cool-as-hell Battle on the Big Bridge? And to my memory, did that Titan fight in the meteor give you a new Summon?

  4. Jaime Says:

IIRC, the first Gilgamesh fight has the normal music. The Big Bridge music is debuted in…well, you know

  5. Chocobo Knight Says:

Heh, well maybe not one of the most popular, but he’s definitely popular I’d say, and I wouldn’t call him, a “minor boss”.

Anyway, though I’ve not played all of FFV, just different segments, I still love Gilgamesh!

  6. Edgemaster Says:

    Dammit, guys, shut up!

Why don’t you let him discover the character by himself, it’s much better that way.
It’s like when you watch a movie and an annoying bastard close tells his friend “now, this character’s gonna walk through the door to kill her but he wan’t be able to because the cat is gonna bite his face off! Really surprising, I tell you!”

  7. Sami Says:

Edgemaster, did you happen to notice that Mike Blitz already discovered Gilgamesh. XD

We’re just discussing his popularity among the fanbase, that’s not spoiling anything about the game itself…

  8. Sami Says:

Unless you’re talking about the crossover stuff, because then I admit that we spoiled it. XP

But I’m sure Mike Blitz has forgotten all about it by the time he runs into Gilgamesh in a future game… ;P

  9. Windark Says:

Besides, Mike has seen Gilgamesh in the past, in FF1, he was an optional boss in the GBA-exclusive dungeons, if you remember.

  10. Chocobo Knight Says:

Telling us to shut up and swearing isn’t exactly the way to go about making us do things, it’s not exactly polite. Especially, as others have said, we weren’t spoiling anything, he’s met Gilgamesh already. Calm down.

  11. Mike Blitz Says:

No harm done, guys. Simple misunderstanding. Express opinions, but let’s keep it polite and positive. We’re all in this for the fun of it. :)

    I actually remembered Gilgamesh, too!

At some point I should probably clarify what I mean about hints, but I don’t mind at all if someone tells me that a particular character will show up again in a later game, or in the current game later. I like to know that sort of stuff.

The hints I’d rather not hear are ones related to spoiling the current story, providing a tip for me to get unstuck, or telling a specific strategy to win a particular battle. And if I’m really worried about someone dropping a hint at some point, I usually just wait until I solve the immediate problem before reading new comments. It’s all good.

All the rest of the informational stuff (upcoming FF games, general informational tips, and overall strategy tips) I enjoy a lot. Your comments make this adventure much more fun for me.

  12. Edgemaster Says:

Well, I have to say I’m a bit sorry if my comment was a bit edgey, the other day. I was kinda angry about something when I got on my computer because something that happened to me “in real life”, so I pushed it a little too far and it’s not like me at all… :(

Well, after a couple of days of rest, I feel a lot better now. Again, no harm intended, it wasn’t my fault, it won’t happen again.

  13. Chocobo Knight Says:

Don’t worry, as Mike said, no harm done

Okay, Mike, thanks for clearing it up, I’ll keep that in mind.

  14. Mike Blitz Says:

    Edge,
No problems at all. Stuff happens.

You’ve always been very positive, helpful, and informative. You’ve added a lot of good info and comments to the discussions! I’m glad you’re here!

  15. Edgemaster Says:

    Well, thanks for the feedback!
