Epilogue: Iron Giant

Posted by Mike Blitz on July 9th, 2007

iron_giant.jpgI had heard rumors of a massive Iron Giant who lived under the ocean, and I wanted to try my hand at fighting it. I had a hunch where he was. We had passed over a black circle in the ocean a few times. I’m guessing that is where the creature lies.

Sure enough, we enter the Iron Giant’s realm and face off against him.

Um, ouch?

The thing wipes us out in one round. That was interesting.

My party is low-mid-70’s in level, 2 guys at job level 99 and 2 lower job level kids, and I can’t touch him, either. If I ever get a yen to do some mega-leveling-up, I’ll try to get high enough to take him on. But I think I probably need at least 10 levels, so it’ll be awhile…

Terpkristin: Yikes. That’s pretty high. I wonder if you need Level 99’s all the way around? Might be a long term project for me.

Apparently the Iron Giant is Level 81, so thats the least you should be (according to a site I found). Most games have secret bosses who are tougher than the last boss. The extra dungeons in FF1 where the ones for that, and Soul of Rebirth did the same for FF2

Chocobo Knight: Thanks for the info. Level 81. Hummm. At about fifteen minutes/level, that would be about five hours for me to get there. Not too bad.

The nice thing about the Iron Giant is that there is no wait to get to him. You just enter the secret area and battle away. This makes it easy to just give it a go any any level. With the Cloud of Darkness, I was really nervous that I was going to lose all the time I had spent getting there.

With the Cloud of Darkness, I *did* lose all the time I had spent getting there–twice, before I beat her/it.

Was I ever glad to see her go.

I understand not wanting to tackle the side stuff yet, wanting to move on, but if you ever do come back to it, would be cool to know (it’s like me coming back to some of it later).

Terpkristin: I am definitely interested in going back and finishing it up, and will probably do it in bits as I move forward in Final Fantasy IV. Most of it will be grinding levels, so I’ll probably just make an occasional update post now and then.

I can’t imagine how frustrating it would be to lose to that Cloud of Darkness twice. Yikes. If I remember correctly, you were about ready to give up, no?

  7. Chocobo Knight Says:

Well, Terpkristin, I wouldn’t blame anyone on giving up after that amount of defeats!

Yeah, definitely, if I went through and got killed a 3rd time, I’d have totally quit. I hate having to level just for the sake of leveling, where using good tactics can’t save your party from getting wiped out in one blow. Oh well. Looking forward to seeing what you think about FFIV (originally released here in the US as FFII if I remember right).
