Earth Fang!

mountain_cave.jpgWith more energy and an earlier start, we resumed our attempt to get the final fang in Final Fantasy 3. The cave was fairly extensive, with at least a half dozen levels and lots of hidden passages that always had me uncertain as to where I was going. Fighting was moderately easy, although we did lose our dragoon twice. Many of the opponents split into two new whole monsters when we struck them, but the new versions tended to be relatively weak and easy to kill. In the process of getting to the bottom, we picked up some fairly nice Genji gear. We also gained a level, which brought everyone to Level 42.

At the bottom of the cave, the final fang sat on a small table. Of course things would have been too easy if we could have simply grabbed the fang and left. Instead, a huge swordsman by the name of Hecatoncheir showed up and tried to slice us into sushi. He didn’t prove to be much of a challenge however, as he only used two physical attacks per turn, each of which did about 500 points of damage. It was straightforward for us to stay at full strength and pour on the damage. After about a half dozen rounds, Hecantoncheir crumbled into dust.

With the fang in hand, I could teleport out of the cave, but I want to fight my way up to see if there are some treasure chests that I missed on the way down.

You know, I still haven’t “figured out” or really put together what the connection is between the fangs and the crystals. I only seem to remember the ice fangs (aside from the earth fang, I mean)…

To be honest, I’ve found the story in FF3 to be a lot more haphazard than the story in FF2, which I actually liked quite a bit, at least until the Dawn of Souls part, that is.

In FF3, I’ve never really been sure what I’m doing. On a small scale, the game just tells you to go somewhere and do something, which makes play easy. Also, I understand that I’m supposed to save the world by getting hold of the four crystals, but everything in between is pretty foggy for me. I’ve just figured that it’s my Japanese ability that is causing the problem.

The story is a little confusing, but it’s not your Japanese. The fangs and crystals are two entirely diffrent things. You already have four because the two fangs that the rouge stole in the Dwarven caves were two of them and the fang in the Water Shrine near the Viking’s cave was one of them. now you have the last fang. the crystals are diffrent. they are the BIG things that give you mor job options.

    Heya, Drake!

Aha! I remember the Dwarven fangs, now that you mention them. So that’s where I got them.

    Thanks for the clarification!

Wow, thanks for explaining that to me, too, Drake!
I guess I didn’t remember the one in the Water Shrine. I definitely remember the one in the Dwarven Caves. I’m still not sure I’m 100% clear about what they are other than “objects you need to get,” though…

The fangs are used to clear the statues out of the way. If you don’t use them, you’ll get killed if you try to walk by them.
