Death by Deadly Door
Posted by Mike Blitz on January 22nd, 2008
Well, that was easy. Final Fantasy IV’s Sealed Cave was just a short hop away from Tomra. We set the Falcon down, approach the door, and use the necklace to open the thing. The necklace works perfectly, and we find ourselves in a spacious subterranean cavern. We explore the cavern a bit, fighting enemies as we go.
There are two exits from this level, and both seem to be blocked by large doors. Picking one at random, we are surprised to find the door attacking us. I don’t believe we’ve ever fought a door before.
And this is no ordinary door. This door hits hard. It used a two-step attack that can take someone out in one shot, and then it transformed into a nasty beast that puts significant damage on our entire party. We’re hammering the thing with everything we’ve got, but we’re not doing much damage. Within a few short rounds, our party is in deep trouble, and I’m struggling to find some magic that might work against the door.
Things go from bad to worse, as we cast a spell that heals the door instead of damaging it. Oops. And two short rounds later, we are all dead. Argh. Wipe out. Damn door.
We’ll try this again tomorrow.

I remember these doors. They’ve always been a pain in the but, but if you wiped out maybe try the other door? Maybe some door monsters are weaker than others. I only say this because, as a serious door fighter, I know how tough some can be. Don’t believe me about the door fighter thing? Try playing Chrono Cross!

Yeah, those FF doors are really tough, but when they finally die, they will give away large amounts of EXP and gold. Most of them are optional, but those guard some treasure chests. I personally used this place for massive grinding.

Man, I have the same problem with doors in real life. It’s always a battle trying to get past one

Drake,
Chrono Cross has deadly doors, too? Yikes.
Windark,
You’re right on about the experience and cash. That was very nice, and I went on to kill every single door that I could find. Ended up hating the things, that’s for sure, but by the end they were falling easy enough.
XBoco,
Har! Good one! Try turning the knob.
