Cid, Hello?

Posted by Mike Blitz on September 17th, 2008

search.jpgI thought this would be a simple matter. After Galuf took off to his home world, we decided to go see Cid and Mid to get help in following Galuf. Well, when we last left Cid and Mid, they were on the Island of the Cresent Moon. But now they’re not there. I checked in the town, in the underwater factory area, and in the Chocobo Forest. No Cid or Mid.

Well, they must be back at the Ancient Library then. So off we go there. Nothing. No one even mentions Cid or Mid. Maybe in the town to the north? We scamper off there, but once again, no Cid or Mid. I search the Pub, the Inn, and all of the shops, but Cid and Mid are nowhere to be found.

I start thinking of other places and start checking. The Castle of Tycoon. The location of the ancient ruins. The towns that haven’t been invovled in the story so far. All strikes. It’s as if Cid and Mid have vanished. After about 40 minutes of this, I’m a bit befuddled and very sleepy, so I give up for the moment.

I’ll continue the search tomorrow.

    You sure you searched?

    Jaime,
Most of the places I mention in the post I actually went to a couple of times.

I finally found them last night, though, and made some progress! I’ll put that post up in a little bit.

Actually, I mean this, which might embarrass you or maybe not!

Put you in Cid and Mid’s position. You have to go away from a place where you know somebody will eventually look for you and cellphones are not invented. What do you do? Leave a note. If, when you went to the underwater base (where you left them the last time) you had pressed the A button near the table, Bartz would have read a note where Cid told you they had gone to the meteor to put the Adamantite back!

Argh! Nope, doesn’t embarass me at all. I remember when I found them that I really wondered how I was supposed to know that they had gone to the meteor. It seemed like the game had just left me to wander around the world to find them, and gave me no clue how to do it. Now I realize the error of my ways. :)

I was starting to have flashbacks to that Breath of Fire game that I played long ago, which pretty much gave you no clue what to do the entire game.

Well that’s a tip for future FFs, there will, most of the time (if not all of the time), some sort of tip to where to go next. You just need to look carefully some of the times, and sometimes I find that hard, and I play in English, so in not your native tongue it must be hard…

That’s what surprised me about this spot in FFV: I have almost always felt that the Final Fantasy games have pointed me in some sort of direction. This is the first time I felt like I was left to just wander around until I stumbled onto something. I should have realized that the Final Fantasy games don’t do that, and have looked for some sort of a clue on Crescent.

Oh, well. I’ll store that away for the next time I feel totally abandoned.

  7. Chocobo Knight Says:

Well, you’ll learn from your mistakes, as you have done in the past, so don’t worry too much.
