Antlion

We fight on in Antlion’s Cave. After a short while, we come to a round amphitheater that looks important. Sure enough, there are some things sticking out of the ground in the middle. After a bit of silliness, we start the fight with Antlion.
This battle is easier than the battle with Octomammoth. Antlion doesn’t hit particularly hard, and all three of our party members do decent damage on the creature. After just a few easy rounds, Antlion does the purple shaky dance and vanishes to oblivion.
We grab the “Desert Shininess” (Sand Ruby in English, apparently), which is the cure for Rosa’s sickness. We start to fight our way back to the desert town of Kaipo. We’ll try to make that journey tomorrow.
As an aside, I never would have guessed that “Antlions” were real creatures. In looking for images for this post, I learned that antlions actually exist. The photo to the right is an image of one.

You have the hovercraft right? You can use that to cruise back to Kaipo so you don’t have to go through the caves again.

One of my earliest FF memories was watching my babysitters son play that part of FF4. when i got into games myself a few years later I played every old rpg I could looking for this game.

FFIV is one of the best FF in the serie. You can find many references to it in later FF, for example this antlion scene is kind of repeated in FFIX.

Opale: Thanks! It’s been interesting for me to see the repetition in the series even over these first four games. Sid has been particularly funny. He’s everywhere in these games!

Yeah, there are references throughout the series to all the games, to try and “tie the series together,” and certain things like Moogles, Chocobos, Cid (who you mentioned) are continually recurring. Opale mentioned FFIX, which was the last game on the Playstation, so it was made as a big monument to other FF games that came before, so it is full of tons of references

Weapons/armor, too, seem to be the same across quite a few of the games so far.

Yeah, they have quite a lot of recurring equipment. FF Compendium (which you often use images from, I have noticed) lists tons of these references, not just the ones from one game to another, but also references to other games and media outside the series

I’ll have to check out those references at FF Compendium. I love their site for all the information it provides. Very good stuff.
