A Fork in Time

Posted by Mike Blitz on November 10th, 2008

So anyway, this long cut scene played out after we beat Atmos. Xezat dies in the tower, which makes Galuf sad, but in the end we’re back on land, finally, with the barrier wiped out. Not sure where to go next or what to do, but I was curious: what was down the other path in the tower? Curious, I went back to the save on the top of the tower, and explored the other path. …

Very soon, we come to a chest. We open it, and immediately a huge triceratops attacks us. We battle the tough creature, and end up victorious in what turns out to be a containable fight.

After the fight, we get a magic cap that halves all magic costs for the caster that wears it. Humm. The defense on the cap is low, but a doubling of mana could be quite useful.

What to do? Should I go back to this game and fight Atmos again? Could I beat him again, or was I just lucky the first time? Or should I just continue on with my current save, as the cap’s low armor value negates it usefulness. Humm…

Status: Deciding.

Oooh, tough choice…I’d find that hard myself!

Atomos is a pretty tough fight. I’m not sure I’d trade a save file in which he is defeated for a save file in which isn’t defeated.

On the other hand, however, it is quite useful to have more MP later on (particularly for healing), and the cap can only be equipped by primarily magic-using classes (which have sucky armor anyway). This is a tough decision.

Supposing you still have both saves, I’d try to beat Atomos again and, if after a couple (or a dozen, depending on your stubborness) tries you cannot manage it, go back to the Atomos-defeated save.

Well whaddya know, Mike can travel backwards in time!
If (when) you have trouble in the Atomos-fight, consider using Time Mages Haste and Slow spells. And if things turn out really bad, Time Mages arsenal includes a spell which starts the battle all over again, meaning boss has full health, you have the same amount of HP and MP as when you started the battle. It is at least faster than loading a saved game.

Ah yes. HOw many times I’ve wished they had resurrected that spell for later games.

Thanks for the thoughts, guys. Much appreciated. I ended up trying to beat Atmos again. I’ll make the post either later tonight or sometime tomorrow.
