Depressed Vikings

Posted by Mike Blitz on 31st January 2007

viking.jpgWe made it through the tunnel easily, and came out upon another valley in the mountains. We battled our way across this to a cave entrance on the other side. This was yet another tunnel, which took us directly to the land of the Vikings.

The Vikings, it turns out, are incredibly bummed out because a sea dragon that got loose after the earthquake has been sinking all their ships, and they can’t defeat it. They only have one ship left, the Enterprise, but they offer this to us if we can help dismiss the dragon.

Things got a bit confusing here, but they mentioned something about a Seadragon Shrine that held the key to the problem.

We’ll rest up and make our way to the Seadragon Shrine tomorrow.

Hi Ho! Hi Ho! We’re Tiny!

Posted by Mike Blitz on 30th January 2007

midget.jpgTurns out that I wasn’t paying enough attention. The midget we met was just hanging around a healing pool in the woods; the actual village lay in the woods to the south. We shrunk ourselves down anyway to replenish our strength at the magical pool, then sized up again and headed south to look for the village.

After a bit of searching and some more random combat, we found the little folks’ village, shrunk ourselves down again, and entered. Not much to see here at first glance: a few shops and some random inhabitants. After a bit of searching around, though, we entered the house of a poisoned magician. We healed him, which made him all happy and generous and such. He promptly opened a secret passage in his house for us that he says will take us through the mountains and to the land of the Vikings. Great! Football!

We’ll head down the passage tomorrow.

Site Update: RSS Feed Changed to Summary Only

Posted by Mike Blitz on 30th January 2007

My movie review blog (Kaboom Review) is getting “scraped”. In short, our RSS feed is being used by another site to take our content and repost it as their own. It’s nice to know that people out there think enough of our content that they want to steal it, but obviously we can’t let this happen.

Unfortunately, it seems that the best way to address the issue is to change our feeds to summary only. I apologize for the inconvenience, but I’ve come to this decision after consulting with a few other bloggers. So for any of you that are subscribing to our feeds, they’ll be changed to summaries as of this post. Clicking on the story title will bring you to the site and the full story.

Sincerely,
Mike

Dragons! Run Away!

Posted by Mike Blitz on 29th January 2007

dragon1.jpgBetter prepared this time, we made our second attempt on the dragon’s lair. This time things went much better. We quickly reached the top of the mountain, where we ran into Desshu (spelling is likely off here), the guy we had come to save. Unfortunately, we also ran into the dragon, which created some serious problems. Desshu suggested we run, but before we could do so the dragon attacked. We gave it our best, but the thing hit for over 700 hit points, and none of our weapons or spells did any damage. After one round, which left our red mage dead, we turned and ran.

Amazingly, we got away. More amazingly, our red mage sprung back to life. Desshu suggested we follow him, and he promptly jumped off the side of the mountain. We did likewise (we seem to be doing a lot of falling from high places in this game) and ended up on the other side of the mountain, safe with Desshu in tow.

As usual, things aren’t so simple. Desshu has amnesia, but feels as if there is something very important he needs to do. Also, by falling off the other side of the mountain, we’re now unable to get back to Cid’s village, as there is a range of mountains blocking the isthmus that leads back to the town. Further confusing matters is a town of midgets which we have stumbled onto. They won’t let us in unless we take a magic potion that Desshu has given us that will reduce us to their size.

Doesn’t look like we have much of an option here. We’ll take the shrinking potion this evening, and see where the midget town takes us.

Stoned!

Posted by Mike Blitz on 28th January 2007

stoned.gifI started last night’s play session with the intent to grind away in the countryside to make some cash and get some experience. Encounters near Cid’s town got fairly easy, so I changed plans and went for a quick raid on the dragon’s mountain.

We fought well in a handful of encounters, but our monk got turned into stone. We used our only “derocking” potion on her, but that left us too vulnerable to continue. We retreated to Cid’s town, where we bought some more potions and equipment, and prepared for a more serious attempt at the dragon’s mountain.
